Look closely, you'll see that the "bass & treble reflectors" in the polished white acrylic box are actually light reflectors with mirror topped bulbs, and the volume control is really a dimmer.
Think it looks smart? It definetly is, as most of the reflecting light bounces back into the box, making it glow, so it won't blind the spectator.
